This is not our recommended meditation position.
Meditation is at the center of the practice of Wisdom, as it is the most powerful tool for transforming our consciousness. We teach Ontos meditation, which is a secular perspective on ancient contemplative traditions as informed by contemporary neurological science. In Ontos we are creating a unified, integrated consciousness by cultivating a partnership between physical, emotional, and intellectual perspectives, as well as all of the Soma’s (mind/body) spheres of awareness. Our brains are functionally divided into different levels and spheres, each with their own concerns and agendas. To some degree those agendas overlap and interface, but to a significant degree they are in tension (the parts of us that want to exercise or read a book and the parts that would really rather stay on the couch with the remote, for instance). However, the discursive awareness of our frontal lobes (Ego/Self/Mind/Me/I), the voice inside our heads, thinks it is in charge because it can speak. The rest have to be felt and sensed, experienced rather than heard. That means that creating integrated consciousness begins with creating a safe space of stillness and silence so that we create the experience of the calm and quiet of inner peace, as well as the space for experiencing the deeper wellbeing of a contented human animal.
